In this response I will talk about collaboration, action plan, discussion tab on wiki, digiteen citizenship what is it to you, wiki, ning, feedback from other students, communicating with the team members, emails from the teacher and improvements. How this has helped me in my studies and why it has helped me in my study.
The collaboration between international students was not that great. We had barely any conversation on what to put onto our subtopic wiki. Some students didn’t even participate because of the different schooling systems, such as Qatar. Students that were on holidays couldn’t really participate unless they were eager to contribute to the page. I think that collaboration between the international students wasn’t great because they could have at least notified the people in each team what is happening and why they weren’t able to participate in the activity.
The action plan I think will be the hardest part of the digiteen project because it is a larger task and needs more planning and thought to what to write about. Due to the fact that this is a task amongst the pupils in my class it will be easier to collaborate and communicate with each other. We also know each other more than we knew the international students, and we all have the same geographical time so it will be more of a closer project.
The discussion tab was also not used as well as it could have been. I think the participants didn’t put enough detail into what he/she was trying to say in the discussion tab. Even though I understood what they were trying to say I think it could have been explained better considering they were from Australia. The discussion tab wasn’t used as much as it could have been. The discussion tab wasn’t really used by the participants to notify each other of why we were not adding information or why they were going to be absent for a time. The discussion tab in my point of view wasn’t used much or as efficiently as could have been.
I think digiteen citizenship is a great community to be a part of. This has been a great opportunity to interact internationally and get a feel what it would be like to work internationally. It has been a great help in finding what I would want to be in the future, due to the fact that you have to interact internationally with others when working in an international part of a business or business.
The wiki was great to work on and gave me an idea of what working with international people is like. I know that this is a safe environment to work in. There has only been one problem of significance, the time differences between team members. This makes it harder to communicate to each other but luckily the internet provides a way to communicate with each other. The website also provides the discussion tab to communicate amongst each other
The ning is another version of myspace. They both contain users and your own page to create into a style of your choice. They also have there differences because the ning doesn’t allow a person to appear anonymous, and digiteen has a more secure environment as on myspace you don’t have to be approved as a member and can appear as anyone or anonymous and isn’t secure. There are no history tabs to exam what has been done and who has done this so there is more of a hazard.
Feedback from the other students wasn’t very inviting as there wasn’t really any collaboration or communicating. When someone published something to the ning they would just say what they have done in the discussion tab. There wasn’t any use between some of the other students who didn’t publish anything tho the ning but their name. The feedback from students weren’t used as effectively as it could have been. There were no discussions that were used to really communicate with each other.
Communicating with team members was very easy if they were actually contributing to the wiki. By contributing to the wiki and posting what we have done and what we intend to do was very easy as it would pop up onto the discussion indicating someone is trying to communicate with he/she. This helped us to collaborate and finish everything we would be told to do. This also helped us research together and argue and agree what was necessary or not.
The emails from the teacher helped me remember when what was due and helped me write what was to be written and published to whatever was the task. This helped me in many ways such as the information given in the emails where more informative than the information given on the sheet explaining the criteria. This helped me understand what the task was about.
There could have been a few of improvements such as when you sent a message to a participant it would be redirected straight to there email so they would actually see the message, because you wouldn’t check your flat class room project account as often as your personal email. Another improvement could be to make the flat class room project during similar times at school so more than one or two people are only working on the subtopic.
I have stated a few improvements that could be made, whether the emails from the teacher were helpful or not, what digiteen citizenship means to me, communication amongst our team, feedback from students, whether the discussion was helpful or not, the action plan and collaboration amongst the team members. On reflection there needs to be more communication between team members and participants. Communication was the most needed tool in order to collaborate together and create a better relationship between participants. This has helped me appreciate the opportunity that we have been granted and hope to do similar in the future.
