Digital Citizenship for Teenagers
Wiki Editing and Authentic Research - minimum 100 words (could be more)
Discuss your assigned digiteen topic, include a link to your topic wiki. Highlight and link
contextually to at least three sources of information turned up in your research that are important.
Reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of your group. Did you communicate? Did any partner
from another classroom excel in their contribution, if so, link to their Ning page, and state what
they did to distinguish themselves in this process.
My project was Etiquette and Respect: Cultural Awareness. I used Diigo to use links to share with people in my group important things that many people need to remember to show kindness and respect to others online. One thing that I found is that everyone needs to remember that some people from other countries/cultures have taboo topics. Many people often forget, especially online, that our words can hurt others. Everyone should remember that some people take offense when someone insults their culture. We all do have cultural differences after all. One thing so many people forget is that respect is something that has to be given, so as to be received, even online. I think that our group should have worked more on trying to work together and communicating better, than to try and do our own thing about our topic.
Action Project - minimum 100 words
Describe the Digiteen Action project, include a link to the action wiki. Share what you did for your
action project and include hyperlinks to any resources used. Explain the target audience for your
work and why your team selected that audience.
Evaluate the effectiveness of your team action project. Did it accomplish what you intended for it
to do? How could it be improved?
Evaluate your team. What could your team have done to improve this process? Were there any
people on your team who did an exceptional job? How?
What is next - if we come back to this project in January, what would you like to do next if given
the time?
My other project that I worked on was the action wiki, Be Real. My main group was Be Real Mature. I helped build the Be Real website and tumblr. Our main audience was teenagers, to show them that we all need to be real. We selected this audience because we feel like since we ourselves are teenagers, it would be easier for us to explain our proposition, and it would be easier for them to actually listen, since our campaign is by teenagers. I think our team did a fairly good job with our campaign. I do not think that we accomplished everything that we had hoped to complete, but I thing we did our best. I think if we had had a better plan for our project, then it would have been better and easier. I would like to hopefully come back with a fresh mind, and hopefully try and continue the project for a while. I think all teenagers need to try and be real.
Digital Citizenship - minimum 100 words
In your opinion, is Digital Citizenship something that should be discussed with children in school?
In your opinion, what ages should learn about this and what topics are the most important?
What is the most important thing you learned in this project.
I believe that Digital Citizenship should be discussed/taught in school. I think young children should learn about safety on the internet before it is too late. If they do not, then they could expose themselves to strangers and predators on the internet. The most important thing that I learned is that to work in a group, you need to have a good plan, and everyone should put forth an equal effort. A team project, means that you all have to have an equal effort. Everyone has to work. That is the most important thing in a group project. A group needs to work like a group.
Comment

I love what you are are doing on the website and hope it will continue. I also like how you kept learning new things and integrating it into your strategy for what you were doing. People who are great with technology (like you) are always experimenting and trying new things. I think that you and your teammates working on the website have a great team chemistry among you and have something special going and I look forward to taking this to the next level. You three might want to consider adjusting your freshman project to really doing something amazing with this website.
