Digital Citizenship for Teenagers

Intro

My name is Ben Shorten and I live in Wollongong NSW Australia. I am 14 years old and love my music more than anything. My favourite bands are Led Zeppelin, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Black Sabbath all the old classic bands. I also love jazz heaps, I like guys like Charlie Parker and Miles Davis. My whole life revolves around Eating, sleeping, playing my guitar and listening to music. I go to The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS). We like to think our school is the best only because it is. The reason we think this is we are only a few minutes away from some of the best beaches in our area, our teachers are all nice except Mr Madsen. Wollongong is one of the nicest places to live in our state. Our school offers heaps of fun activates, like Music and drama, camps, sport, Japanese and French. It is a really nice environment to learn in.

TIGS is celebrating its 50th year, so as you can imagine it has a long and no doubt boring history. Over the years it has evolved into one of the best schools in the area. The school is about an hour south of Sydney so we can easily go to Sydney for excursions. But school isn’t everything. On the weekends I like just chilling out, or playing guitar or going to the mall to do some busking, or just going to friend’s places.

Wollongong is located about an hour away from Sydney. That means we can go to Sydney for the day on weekends. Sydney is a cool place to spend time in, there are heaps of shops and music venues, like the sound lounge. But there is enough in Wollongong without going to Sydney. We have a really good mall and a great 18 hole golf course right next to the beach. Wollongong is the nicest place to live in our state.

I was even named after the jazz musician Miles Davis, who you mentioned. Music is a huge part of my life. I've played some type of instrument since I was 6 or 7 years old. My parents met through music, and my dad plays piano in a jazz band 1-2 times a week. My favorite bands are Tool, Serj Tankian and System of a Down, Three Days Grace, and some Metallica.
