- I teach 5th-7th graders in a small independent school in Salem, Massachusetts, USA. Thirty-one years ago a friend and I started The Phoenix School because we thought kids should be more actively involved in their own education and we wanted to develop a creative and exciting learning environment. It has been quite an adventure, working hand in hand with students to learn together.
